An armed man was killed after a shooting on Monday morning in a Walmart in eastern Arkansas, United States, which left two police officers injured, authorities said.

The event occurred in Forrest City, about 70 miles west of Memphis, said Mayor Cedric Williams, at a press conference. Two police officers were injured in the shooting at Walmart in Forrest City, Arkansas State Police said on Facebook. The two officers are hospitalized. The authorities have not disclosed the identities of the people involved.

Scott Pope, a spokesman for Walmart, said the company is cooperating with the Forrest City Police Department with the investigation, but declined to give more details. Walmart is based in Bentonville, Arkansas. Tammy Priddy, an employee of the Simmons Eye Center optician inside the Walmart, said she was preparing files when she heard eight bullets and ran to hide under a counter.

"The first two shots surprised me and there came a co-worker and told me they were shots," said the 57-year-old woman.
